The beach is the best...

...except when it's cold and raining. Asher Hardman Age 5

I would have to add and not with a teething baby. We rented a beach condo for Spring Break in Galveston. Last week was beautiful in the mid-70's and next week is supposed to be sunny in the 70's but the whole time we were there it was cold, windy, and raining. The sun started to peak through the clouds as we loaded our bags into the car to leave, teasing us with a glimpse of what might have been. It's too bad, because the condo was really nice and was within 500 feet of the beach. From one window you could see the Gulf of Mexico and from the other you could see the bay between Galveston Island and the mainland. We'll have to try it again sometime and hope for more sunshine. We did manage to have some fun though.
The beach condo and the view of the Gulf from the patio.

From the beginning...We started out at the Houston Space Center which was a lot better than I expected. They had lots of kid centered activities and it was amazing to see the Saturn spaceship. It was huge! We learned that Asher could be the first person to step on Mars because there is a trip planned to Mars in 2030 and Asher would be just the right age.

Here are pictures of the beach. Brrrr! So cold. Although the water was actually quite warm...much warmer than the air. Kelton didn't mind though. He loved trying to shove as many seashells in his mouth as quickly as possible before Mom or Dad could take them away.

We also took a ferry boat from the island over to the Boliver Peninsula. Below are pictures of Kelton pulling the car onto the ferry, Sage pouting because she didn't want to get out of the car, and all three looking out the window of the ferry.

The area where we were staying and the more touristy areas of Galveston were cleaned up pretty well from Hurricane Ike but we did see a lot of destroyed houses, hotels, and roads. One hotel had an entire wall ripped off and you could see guest rooms inside with beds and furniture. Asher wasn't really concerned with the hurricane until we tryed to visit a candy store that had been recommended only to find it destroyed by the hurricane.
Asher: What's the name of that storm, Mom?
Me: A hurricane.
Asher: And it destroyed a CANDY STORE?*

*Said in a tone to imply, the HORROR! what SENSELESS WASTE! A CANDY STORE! Houses, yes. Hotels, yes. But a CANDY STORE? You could tell his small world was rocked.

Anyway, we had fun spending time together and hopefully we'll be able to return again sometime with some sunshine.
